Thesis Write Up:
I chose the theme SHAPES because I wanted to explore all kind of shapes we all know about since our childhood so this time I decided to explore new forms and designs out of those basic shapes we see around. I also tried to discover Shapes in Nature. If we notice our world is filled with many different shapes
The interior I chose is ‘the young girl bedroom’ by creating a sense of adventure and exploration for having fun in a safe soft environment. I added bright colors and tried to create boldness in every product
The importance I felt behind the theme selection is to divert people’s mind towards something new, different and that too with the help of those basic shapes we have been seeing around us but in my development I changed their look in combined and distorted form which will make people see something totally new and surprisingly different out of them. The techniques i used were tie and dye, batik, silk patinting, stenciling, block printing.
When designing and making I liked to explore how different shapes and techniques affect the final product. By playing with all kind of shapes I distorted them, combined them to make them different as much as possible to think of the more creative forms in designing. The shapes I used to explore were (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, octagon, pentagon, and hexagon, cones, spiral of various kinds, cubes, prism, heart, sphere etc) Instruments such as rulers, triangles, compasses, and protractors are used for design exploration.
Five techniques used are:
- Tie & Die
- Batik
- Stenciling
- Block printing
- Silk painting
